Joe Torre felt so strongly about what he deems is poor behaviour by managers, that he sent a memo to managers, general managers and assistant general managers that said:

“This highly inappropriate conduct is detrimental to the game and must stop immediately. Although disagreements over ball and strike calls are natural, the prevalence of manager ejections simply cannot continue. This conduct not only delays the game, but it also has the propensity to undermine the integrity of the umpires on the field.”

The Blue Jays walked off the Orioles 5-2 yesterday in your typical AL East firecracker. This ditty just happened to be the AL Wildcard game, you know… where the winner goes to the ALDS and the loser packs up and goes home. So, up until the bottom of 11th inning when the game was still undecided, there was a possibility the Jays could be the ones carting their disappointed behinds the hell out of Canada. I really wasn’t looking forward to hearing all the narratives about the season that wasn’t. And thankfully, I don’t have to right now.
